Applelust is looking to add writers to its staff. If you
are interested or want to be part of the Applelust community, drop us
a line with your resume or vita. We are always on the look out for good,
very smart, and reliable people to join the staff. If you think you have
what it takes, let us know.
Behold,
the Death of Apple (6-6-05)
Mark it down, this will be the second
undoing of Steve Jobs at Apple...
assuming that Apple survives long
enough to kick him out.
Oxymoron:
Windows Security (10-29-04)
Windows users had
to wait two years to finally get
a security patch, SP2, that was
supposed to make it difficult for
hackers... except it seems to have
had pretty much the opposite effect.
When
Will They Ever Learn? (10-15-04)
Windows nearly causes an 800-plane
accident. Why are mission critical
systems using Windows?
G5
iMac First Impressions (9-01-04)
First thoughts on the new G5 iMac...
another case of Applelust for Joe?
Short Takes (7-30-04) iPod Mini
shortage, supercomputers, crumbling
monopolies, and a few other juicy
topics.
Short
Takes (2-20-04) New Spam laws nab
the bad guys as more bad guys find
new ways to spam, strange bedfellows
and more Mac myths busted.
The
Thinking Woman's Choice (1-9-04)
Apple hit their market with the iPod
Mini, it just happens to be a different
market than critics hoped they'd go
after.
Prognostications:
2004 (12-19-03) What can we expect
to see from Apple in 2004? Joe's educated
and not so educated guesses.
The
Smell of Fear (7-18-03) A lot of
noise has come from the Wintel crowd
attempting to discredit the performance
of the G5. Is there any factual basis
to their claims of rigged benchmarking?
Lynch
Mob. The reactions to Motorola's
announcement of a GHz chip is coming
in. Joe looks at it all.
Apple
Meets Chicken Little. Apple has
seen its 12th consecutive profitable
quarter, up from the last quarter and
up from a year ago. Wall Street reacts
by panicking and dumping AAPL. Does
this make sense?
As
Others See Us. Perception and reality
often do not coincide and Apple has
suffered from this unfortunate fact
for most of its existence. Now, Mac
OS X may be reversing the situation
and a new era may be upon us.
Spam,
Spam, Spam. Spam in a can is barely
tolerable to most of us although a
few profess to actually liking it.
Spam in our email is quite another
matter since I don't know of anyone
who likes it who is still legally sane.
Here's some help in trying to get rid
of that pesky cyber-trash clogging
your email box.
Card
Games. Joe looks at the graphics
cards wars and what companies are doing
to woo Apple.
Cubist
Art. More cubism as Joe looks at
the art and strategy of the G4 Cube.
Is the Cube a Trojan Horse that will
work its way from management to staff
in excutive offices?
Vendetta.
Joe takes on PC and IT people in
this piece, with a little Dilbert thrown
in for good measure.
Future
Mac. What does the future, in terms
of megahertz, have in store for Apple
and its competitors?
Puzzle
Cube. Behold the Cube, the G4 Cube.
It is small. It is quiet. It is fast.
It is a puzzle to many it seems.
Free
Software, Anyone? There is a lot
of quality freeware out there. And
we are talking full-blown, big, dedicated
programs.
Rumors,
Rumors . . .It's Expo season.
Time for rumors. How about some reasoned
speculation too.
Joe Carson brings a mix
of wit and insightfulness to his writing.
Possessing an acute sense of the absurd,
Joe's writing has an edge that is absent
with most other writing of the same kind.
There is no point to having an edge if
it is not sharp, after all. As he says,
"I am always both surprised and annoyed
that I know far more than the guys who
sell this stuff."
Joe Carson is a former computer
consultant, former music director in U.S.
West Coast dance company, currently attempting
to understand "Finale" (high end music
publishing program). He is a practicing
Ethnomusicologist sans "Union Card." Uh?
He likes music from different cultures.
A lot. Living in the LA area, he plays
music for weddings in that culturally
rich melting pot.
Joe has been a member of
AMAN, the music director in the AVAZ dance
company (Central European and Near Eastern
dance specialties at the time) and is
currently involved with DRITA, that is,
Albanian music. The site can be found
here.
He's involved with various Greek music
and cultural organizations (his most notable
involvement was getting a bouzouki once
owned by V. Tsitsanis restored; Tsitsanis
was arguably the greatest Greek bouzouki
composer of all time), the UCLA Near Eastern
Orchestra and is currently involved with
three Arabic dance organizations (real
ones with real Arabic performers, not
the usual Hausfraus trying to engage in
Arabian Nights fantasies...) as a musician.
Um . . . . sounds like the perfect Mac
Bohemian to us!
